MuseScore doesn't care what you call the instruments instruments you write for. But for playback, it uses "soundfont" files. So if you want the specific sound of a bugle as opposed to trumpet for playback, you'd want to find a soundfont that provides that sample.
Doesn't a trumpet sound enough like a bugle to work? A bugle is basically a valveless trumpet, so it's all in how you write it. (You wouldn't want to write notes that a bugle can't play.)
yeah there are, so basically if you press "choose instrument" after the naming of the score, and above the list you'll see a drop down menu that says "common" press that, press all instruments, and scroll down to find bugle. It isn't alphabetical order though so it will be a bit hard.

The Bugle instrument is flawed - poor sound and incorrect pitch range. Better to use a trumpet and stick to the notes C, G, C, E, G.

Does GM provide a better sound? Which?
What would the correct pitch ranges be?
