D.C. al Capo

• Apr 24, 2016 - 04:28

Hi

The score was exported from 'FINALE' as an 'xml' music file. The coding of "D.C al Capo" works.
I thought that 'muse score' would handle this universal music format, obviously not.
I'm not sure how to code 'musescore' to have the same action as 'FINALE'.
Our group's intention was to use 'musescore' to exchange music among members who use
FINALE and SIBELIUS.

This is what I'm attempting to do:

Play measure(s) 1 to 102 (then return to the beginning)
Play measure(s) 1 to 58 (then jump to measure 103)
Play measure(s) 103 to 127 (end)

Thank you
Doug

It appears you didn't see the responses to your other thread - see https://musescore.org/en/node/107796.

Basically, your score contains an error. First of al, it's not "al Capo" but "al Coda". But more importantly, you need to add a "to Coda" marking at the point where you wish to jump to the coda after taking the DC (DC standards for da capo). You say you want a jump at measure 58, so that is where you need to add the "to Coda" marking. You have added only a coda sign, not a "to Coda" instruction. If you wish to edit the text of the "to Coda" instruction to use the coda sign, you can do so (double click to edit, the press F2 to display the Special Characters palette), but you have to add the "to Coda" symbol or it won't be understood by MuseScore.

Presumably Finale has a similar marking you should be using instead of the simple coda sign. Maybe Finale plays back correctly even if you use the simple coda sign, but apparently it did not export it correctly then. Better to just use the proper sign in the first place.
