The easiest way to translate MuseScore is to use the translation server. Once you have translated some strings, you will find a qm file to test here. I think the QM file is created once per day.
The fo.qm file was indeed not being generated yet. Now it is.
In the next release, mscore_fo will be in the list of supported languages.
For your information: your translation has been committed to the MuseScore repository. This means that for the next release, i.e. 1.1, Faeroese will be in.
