Slow grace notes and weird beat
Hey, I just got this software. I used an app called ScoreCreator on my tablet, but it was relatively primitive as of now. So I'm trying to manually transfer some scores to get a feel of the app. Everything looked so neat and I was so excited, but what in the world is going on with the beat. The first note of the first score I'm transferring is a dotted half note preceded by two grace notes ( the double flagged one) I input that into the first measure and notice there was still a quarter rest in the measure after the note. That looked strange so I pressed the play back button to check it out, and it was not at all what I expected. Upon further tries to fix the problem, I noticed the tiny bar at the bottom of the window. When I clicked the first grace note it said Beat 1, when I clicked the second grace note, it said beat 2, and so on and so forth. How do I fix the beat? Shouldn't the half note take up all three beats?

Edit: Hey, I was just misreading the time signature, it's fixed now. ;)

What version of MuseScore, which OS? in 2.0.3 on Windows 7 in the Status bar I see beat 1 for both grace notes and also the 2 dotted half notes in measure 1 (and you seem to be using Windows and MuseScore 2.0.3 too, so I really don't understand where you see beat not being 1 on any of these notes)
And as the time signature is 2/2 alla breve, there are indeed 4 quarter notes to a measure, so that quarter rest is perfectly OK and to be expected. If you want an irregular (pickup) measure, use right-click, measure properties and change the actual duration ftom 2/2 to 3/4

Yeah, I was accidentally reading it as 3/4... I still can't believe it. But still, I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Welcome aboard...
It's great that you noticed the status bar at the bottom of the window. It comes in handy for troubleshooting, especially with issues of timing/syncopation.

Indeed, grace notes added to a principal note may make the principal note's timing sound 'weird' to you. Perhaps you should consider the acciaccatura.

Thanks for that sample sheet! I didn't know the difference between the two, so I just went with the appoggiatura that looked like a sixteenth note since it looked faster. I guess I've still got a lot to learn!
For the record, there are two types of grace notes in music: appoggiaturas (no slash through stem) and acciccaturas (slash through stem). The former are supposed to take one half the value of the main note; the latter are supposed to be very fast.
