Is there a way to turn off the automatic calculating of rests and notes when you place a note
I have played around a little with Sebelius but otherwise I'm a complete noob. I am using MuseScore V 1.00 that I found in the Ubuntu 11.04 Software center. It is probably out of date!
I find this very disturbing. I can never get my notes or rest placed where I want them. If I try to place notes in a line on a bar it automatically recalculates and placing notes that are not what I intended.
Thanks,
Paul

Have you read the Handbook that is included with the application, and in particular, the section on Note Entry? See:
http://musescore.org/en/handbook/note-entry
I have the same problem , very unhandy
I hope the handbook gives me a solution
The handbook as recommended gives no solution

Well, it describes the proper way to enter notes - if you follow the steps desdcribed there, they *do* work. So you must be doing something different from what is described there. You don't say specifically what you are trying to do or what you are expecting to see happen, but think of MuseScore as being more or less like a word processor. You enter text left to right - you don't just randomly place letters wherever you want on the page. Similarly, with MuseScore, you enter notes left to right - you don't just place them wherever you want on the page.
If there is something in particular you are having trouble figuring out how to do, please post a *specific* example of what you are trying to achieve and how you are trying to do it, and we can show you why it isn't working and what the correct way to do it is.

I'm pretty sure I gave an answer along the same lines this morning, but now it isn't there anymore, very strange
