Printing Problem - Coming up Question Marks - Any Ideas?
Not sure where I should go to look for help with this (whether MuseScore software is part of the issue or not), but when I printed out some scores, part way into some of the scores, question marks began printing instead of text. The first score that this happened with, some of the text printed letters mixed with question marks, and then, after a bit, all of the letters began to print as question marks.
Later, anytime the question marks arose, all letters after the first question mark printed as question marks.
Any ideas where I should begin in trying to problem solve this type of problem?

Does this happen with any other program's print jobs?

I think it is a question of fonts installed on your PC.
I seek a conversation on the subject ...

Not yet anyway.....

Shoichi,
I'll have to look to see if I still have prior versions of MuseScore or etc. installed.
I wasn't using a PDF.
It is odd to me that the font would print properly for a while, and then it wouldn't any longer.
It also only happens with some scores, not with all of them.
I'll check on the previous MuseScore installations and etc. and let you know what I find.
Thanks so much for the input! =]
Normally this would indicate a font problem. Some other program on your system - or perhaps you yourself - has installed an incompatible version of one of the fonts MuseScore requires, and this is preventing MuseScore from working correctly. However, this is normally visible on screen as well as in printing. The only time I know of where it might look OK on screne but not in print is if trying to use an unsupported third party PDF print driver, but you say this isn't the case.
So I might guess a bug in your printer driver, or perhaps running low on system memory, or something else, is causing the fonts to not render even though they are otherwise OK. That's just a guess of course. but you might try exporting to PDF. If the PDF looks OK on screen, then MuseScore did it's job OK. If it doesn't print OK, the problem must be in your printer driver or somewhere else further down the line.

Marc, I'm obviously not as computer savvy as yourself, but what you are saying makes a lot of sense, even to me!
I'll try that by Monday (I'm not working on music at the moment.... needed a break!)
I'm very encouraged by your investigative plan! Yeah!
Thanks!!! =]

Marc? Or Anyone? Can you help?
I tried to save the file as a pdf. I thought the way to do that was to hit 'save as', then select pdf.
I currently only have two options in the drop down box:
save as MuseScore file, or save as an uncompressed musescore file?
Am I missing something?

You're missing that in the more recent MuseScore version you need to use File > Export
In reply to You're missing that in the by jeetee
Okay. Yes, I'm sorry, I missed that.
I was able to save the file as a PDF without any changes in text.
I'll simply print from PDF format in the future.
That should avoid whatever conflict is going on, I think.
If not, I'll be asking my son about my computer issues......

And yes, I did redownload adobe pdf.
And that didn't work, so I restarted the computer.
And when I did, the last couple sessions' worth of work I had done in MuseScore got lost!
I'm not a happy camper over here.
Any ideas?

oh, and no, restarting the computer didn't get the pdf file option working....
In reply to And yes, I did redownload by RainahN-Songs
In MuseScore 2.0 it is File → Export, in 1.x it was File → Save (as), don't confuse the two
In reply to And yes, I did redownload by RainahN-Songs
As mentioned, you need to use *Export*, not "Save", to be able to save to non-native formats like PDF. This is a pretty universal GUI concept that older versions of MuseScore unfortunately violated, but it's been correct ever since 2.0.
Not sure what you mean about losing work; that seems unrelated and probably a simple misunderstanding over where you saved the file. Feel free to start a new thread to discuss that.

so, thanks to all of you, and now, thanks to jeetee,
I think this is at least workable for me
In reply to so, thanks to all of you, and by RainahN-Songs
just in case anyone else runs into this problem.......
for the record, I was able to print without any problems using the PDF files........
whether or not to straighten out any conflicts between software? I haven't wrestled with that question yet, but the PDF files are printing well...
thanks again!
