How can a measure length be reduced/extended?
I am using 1.3 Musescore. What is puzzling me is how to change the length of a bar. Problem is that some of the downloaded lead sheets have bars that take up the full length of one line. This causes the lead sheet to be longer than is necessary, when what is desired is a shorter measure, more in line with the rest of the measures where there are 3 or 4 per line. This often causes extra unnecessary and unwanted pages. Please offer method to reduce length of one of the measures - hopefully the rest of the measures will back up to this shortened measure. Thanks Bill

If there are line breaks delete them
Select measure ->Layout/Add Less Stretch
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/layout-and-formatting#layout-stretch
Upgrade if possible: https://musescore.org/en/download
In this case look up the 1.x handbook: https://musescore.org/en/node/15053#Layout%3A-Add-More-Stretch%2C-Add-L…, although that method is still available in 2.0
Yes. I would like more control over how long the measures are to appear. I did the stretch thing, and it worked only to a certain degree. What would be ideal is a click and drag option. Just click on the right or left side of the measure, and drag it to where you would like it to be. More of an artistic thing really, but this is what I want. Thanks, Ilene

See my response to your other post on the subject. But also, you should update to 2.0.3 as soon as you can - 1.3 is pretty ancient and pretty severely limited in lots of ways, especially with regard to lead sheets. Plus it won't open scores created with more recent versions at all.

See the response above - the "stretch" commands are how you change measure lengths, if for4 some reaosn you need to have non-standard lengths (the defaults should be correct as is).

"Stretch" can only work to a certain degree, if reducing strechts isn't anough you need wider paper or a smaller overall score setting, like slowering the spatium value.
