add hand clap to pallette

• Sep 19, 2011 - 05:45

How do I add more percussion items to the default pallette, the sound I want, hand clap, appears in the make insrtument list, it even adds a staff of its own...but I can't put the sound where I want it. What am I doing wrong?

It does work!

Score attached - I've added a handclap to the 5 line Drumset and it now appears in the pallette. All you need is the MIDI note number it is attached to.

Have you read the bit in the manual about entering drum notes??

Incidentally hand clap is not normally notated with the rest of the Drumkit but has it's own staff above because normally Drummers only have two hands :)

Are you familiar with the way General MIDI implements Drums?

If not this will probaby seem a bit arcane to you.

The WikiPedia article on General MIDI will make a good starting point:-

TBH I think the way you enter drums in MuseScore sucks, but it's what we've got and the typesetting abilities of the application are amazing :)

If you need any more help - please yell :)

Found the midi number, 39, shows up as D3 (I think that is right). Got my clapper working, now next question.
How do I add an instrument, that is not in the list as default
midi numbers 80-87 inclusive? It could be that these are not in the sound font file I have (the fluid synth one)
When I get this stuff figured out, I will have even more fun (I hope)

I have now got CamStudio running on my laptop so I will do a tutorial vid for you to show you how to add a note to the Drumset Palette

BTW I think Xavierjazz was referring to my comment to "Yell" for help if you needed it :)

I'm about to go to bed - but I will do that vid for you first chance I get tomorrow.

It looks as though the updating of the Drum Palette after editing, I haven't been able to establish how to actually get your changes displayed.

They just happen some time after you have edited the palette.

It maybe just that it is slow, but until I've fathomed this I'm reluctant to do a How To vid.

Incidentally of the note numbers you refer to only two have sounds assigned in the GM Drum spec.

That doesn't mean they have no sound - some MIDI devices may have sounds assigned to them, but without a definitive list of the FluidSynth Percussion Set there's no way of knowing.

Will be looking that up later :)
