Beams: user position/horizontal error

• Oct 11, 2016 - 22:14

I may have found a bug. Here are the steps:

1.) Create a set of beamed notes, e.g. four 8th notes ascending.
2.) Select the beam and make it Horizontal in the Inspector.
3.) Let's say you do your thing throughout the score and come back to this set of notes and decide you have a preference for a new position of the beam. Instead of selecting the beam and unselecting "Horizontal", you directly select the beam and change the user position giving it a particular slant.
4.) Now looking at the inspector, the check boxes for both horizontal AND user position are selected and greyed out.The user can no longer uncheck either box. I know this sounds sort of ridiculous to be shifting back and forth between horizontal and user positions, but it is a potential act of a user. If a user would like to make the beam horizontal again, there is no way to check "horizontal" to bring it into this form: an undo or a manual eye-balled horizontal reformation is required.

It seems to me that when a user changes the horizontally-checked beam into a new position, the horizontal option should automatically be unchecked instead of having both horizontal option and user position checked, thus eliminating their both being greyed out. Any thoughts or retorts?

You're right that this seems to be a bug. However, for the record, there is a simple workaround - press Ctrl+R after selecting the beam to reset it its default state.
