extended instruments & sound fonts
Hello everyone... I've got 0.9.4 and I just downloaded a new soundfont (PC51d.sf2) that is meant to have all these wonderful instruments inside... yet when I go to compose I new piece, I get nothing but the same old list of instruments to choose from. Is there something special I have to do to get the instruments from my soundfont file onto the list of instruments. I've been into I/O and the program is semms to be retrieving sound from the new soundfont, but only for the standard musescore instruments...
Also, is there any way to keep the original musescore piano sound and run it (together) with the new soundfont?
Thanks
Elias

The SoundFont just allows you to hear the instruments other than piano.
Ah, so you mean no matter what the soundfont it can't actually add instruments to the choice list? That's fine, I really don't need any other instruments, the ones provided are usually all I compose with. But I'm still wondering if it's possible to get the original musescore piano running in addition to my current soundfont, as it's the best piano sound I've heard.
Thanks
Elias

It is not possible to use more than one SoundFont at a time.
You can always change the name of an instrument once you have added it. Right click on an empty part of the staff and choose "Staff Properties". From the Staff Properties dialog you can change the text that appears in front of each staff. If you find yourself using a instrument often you can make a feature request and we will consider adding it to the next version of MuseScore.
Cheers David, and by the way, I'm loving Musescore. I've used all the similar software - I was working with a student on Sibelius just the other day - and as far as I'm concerned Musescore's the pick of them.

is if a person had a soundfont that had extra instruments, they would still be able to go to the menu item create/ instruments... then there would be some way to select [other] where the user would be prompted for an instrument name, instrument abbreviation, port, channel and patch number. Maybe I'm a control freak, but I think things should be as flexible as possible.
