How To Split Voices
I have a piece that starts out with the soprano, alto, tenor, an bass all combined. Half way through the soprano and alto parts split out into another stave. The soprano and alto voices have been split out and are correctly labeled SA in their own stave. When I try to change the "instruments" in the top stave from SATB to just TB it changes the top stave for the whole piece, including the combined section SATB, to SA. Is there some way to change the voices for just one section of the piece without affecting the other sections? Thank you.

Add all the instruments you want or need, enter the notes, use "Hide empty staves"

The following two attachments show before and after the voices are split. Unfortunately I can't remove the soprano and alto annotations from the first stave of the second attachment without them getting removed from the previous attachment.

Add am Instrument for TB, cut /paste the notes there

Thank you. I added two more "instruments" to split out the soprano/alto and tenor/bass voices from the satb voice and copied the parts in to the new voices and deleted them from the combined voices and hid the empty staves.
Now the voice nomenclature to the left of the stave does not come out to the left of the stave but instead shows as being between the two new staves. I can drag the nomenclature, there is probably a word for that, up to the stave on an individual basis but something else is wrong because when I click on the second stave that I added to change the nomenclature for it the nomenclature for the first stave that I added gets changed. It's like both staves are acting as one stave. Thank you.

It is the instrument name. And most probably because you didn't add an Instrument, but added a staff to an instrument. So both staves to belong to the same instrument, similar to piano, which too has 2 staves.
But hard to tell by looking at Images, better share the score itself

Thank you. Adding instruments instead of staves fixed the problem.
