What do you mean by not working ? A lot of people are using MuseScore 1.2 daily, and barlines are working :)
Can you explain what you are trying to do? What do you expect and what is not working ?

I place a repeat bar line at the end of measure 8 or whatever, and the first 8 measures do not repeat.
Must be doing something wrong that is simple, but have tried repeatedly on different scores with same NO repeat process.

If you are referring to playback, to hear repeats you apparently have to click the repeat button above the playback bar. This is not on by default it seems.

Do you have playback of repeats turned on? That's one of the icons in the main toolbar next to the other playback controls. Also, I believe MuseScore may require the opening repeat sign, as opposed to assuming you want to go ack to the beginning as some editions do.
If that doesn't solve your proble, posting a sample score with steps to reproduce that problem would help.

Thanks Marc. That was simple. Like everything else, corrections to my problems are usually right in front of me! Once I SAW the icon (&%$$#@#!) fixing it was simple. Works fine now.
