midi Export - sound level
Hi
I want to export a file as a midi (save as) with a special sound level for each voice (in the mixer: volume).
When I reopen the midi-file, all the volume levels are at one level. How can I change that, so I can highlight one voice and set the level of the other voices a little bit lower?
Thanks and greetings
Andreas

I haven't tried it, but I guess the mixer volume levels are for playback only, not for MIDI. So if your want relative levels stored in the MIDI, there are two options I can think of. One would be to use a MIDI sequencer/editor to add MIDI volume info to the file. The other would be to set the MIDI velocity of the notes from within MuseScore, which would affect all playback, not just MIDI. You'd select all notes on a staff, right click one, and set the MIDI velocity parameter. I see there is an "offset" parameter that allows a percentage, so hopefully that would preserve the dynamics already present but just increase or decrease overall level. If that doesm't work, I'm sure a plugin could be written to do this.

Hi Marc
Thanks for the ideas. I have tried an editor and the problem is the same. In the editor I highlighted a voice and outside the editor all the voices have the same volume level. So I think it might be something with the mac that it normalizes the file???

What are you playing the MIDIfile on??
I know nothing about Macs, but it seems to me that the software is filtering out velocity information??

I don't see where you mentioned using th editor to *add* volume information. That's what I was suggesting. If that's what you did, you could try posting the result (say, make one staff much much louder than the rest so we can tell if it worked).
What operating system and version of MuseScore are you using?

@chen
Operating system: Mac OS x 10.6.8
Muse Score: 1.2 Rev 5470
@churchorganist (sounds nice :-)
1.)
I altered the file in musescore (the volume, I think you say velocity to it?) and reimported it into musescore and the volume level was for all voices the same again
2.) the I edited it in "Midi Swing" and played it in itunes/quick times and in Muse Score and the volume level of all the voices were the same. that is why I think it has something todo with the computer system.

Ok, somehow musescore levels all sound volumes when you import midis, so you can export the midi with different sound levels (and import it into itunes), but when re-imported to musescore, all the levels are the same. But, thats ok for me, problem solved..
Thanks for your help!
