increasing space after bar line

It's frustrating trying to input guitar fingerings before the notes just after the bar line. MuseScore wants to keep that space as small as possible and making enough space can be a challenge. Stretching the measure doesn't help. I've looked without success for some entry that will increase the space after the bar but no luck yet. Is there a way or is that for the future? Thanks!
