When playback sees a slur it plays both notes separately. If the two notes are at the same pitch I think it would be better to play a held note.

And to be clear: ties and slurs are *completely* different things, they just happen to look similar. There is such a thing as a slur on two notes of the same pitch (makes more sense for some instruments than others), and they playback of two slurred notes is *supposed* to sound each note.

Yeah, for instance very often we use slurs to mark bowing for string instruments.

Usually with an ornament on each note such as staccato.
