da capo al fine and voltas

Hello,

my partition contains logical music blocks, like "A B C".

What I want to archive is, that when it plays, it should be played like "A B1 B2 C B1 B2".

In other words, it plays first part A, then B with ending 1 (Volta), then it repeats B with ending 2, then C, and then again B with ending 1 and finally B with ending 2.

It almost works. Almost.

I put a Volta 1 and Volta 2 on the endings of B along with this ordinary repetitions, i.e. ||: and :||. Then I put a "segno" on start of B and a "Fine" at end of B (to be more precise, on end of B2).

Then I wrestled around with Volta properties to get that repetition sequence right. This is where I'm stuck.
Basically it plays something like "A B1 B2 C B1 (Volta of B2)".

In other words, the second time :|| is run over, i.e. after the "da capo al segno", it appears to have no effect.

What am I doing wrong?

No repeat barlines or voltas needed, just put a "Segno" at B1, a "Fine" at the end of B2, a "D.S. al Fine" at the end of C
Ah, no, wrong. You want 'Jumps with repeats', a feature we currently don't have. It'll be in the next major version of MuseScore though

After a DS or DC repeats are not normally played in a song, so Volta 1's are ignored. There is no way to force MS to play the repeat in sections that are being replayed in the section during the DS. You will need to change the DS to a DC al coda and write the section not playing correctly in the coda. You can put the coda before the B Volta to minimize the amount of duplication in your score.

The alternative is to use directions in English (or whatever language) telling the musicians what you want, but MS will never play it correctly.

Sorry, first and foremost it plays "A B1 B2 C B2" after having introduced "Fine" and "Da capo al segno". Then after wrestled with some Volta properties I managed to get "A B1 B2 C B1 (Volta of B2)" which is almost what I'm looking for.

I also tried to bump the measure counter to "3". This did not work out.

Yes, that's what I want. This is just it is written in the original music document (which I'm copying to able to listen to each separate instrument).

In my case it could be implemented by reseting all counters on my "DC al segno" jump...

Perhaps it would be good to implement a more general approach to repeats and jumps and ignore for the moment whether "unusual" jumps and repeats are well seen in some musician domains.

The feature you want is not currently implemented. Perhaps the easiest way is to make one score for printing and another for playback. It is sometimes possible to do what you want by cunning use (and abuse) of repeats, DS's and Volta modifications but highly likely to go wrong and to take more time than just creating two versions of the score.
