parentheses
Hi,
In writing jazz solo parts within a larger arrangement, I'd like to have a "suggested scale." The first four bars of a solo section, with one chord per two bars, would have quarter notes showing a scale. So for the four bar section, there would be two scales, with parentheses around each two-bar scale.
Long ago, we were using this techinique to give the soloist a clue as to what we meant by an otherwise obscure chord symbol.
So, is there a way to place parentheses around scales on the staff?
Thanks in advance.

I think the easiest way to add parentheses around an entire scale would be to use staff text. You can make it with just 1 parenthesis and change the font size then put one at the other end the same size and drag them to the proper spots.

Thanks, that's a very good idea. I'll try it out tonight when writing.
