Musescore 1.2 and variable stave count.
EDIT: I solved this below.
Re: Musescore 1.2 and variable stave count.
Hello,
In Marc Sabatella's composition “Down (Anything But Red)” at the “Segno” repeat the score changes from a single staff lead sheet style with just a treble clef to a double staff with both bass and treble clef and then back again.
I can't figure out how to do that.
Any pointers on how to have a score that has a different number of staves in the same score is appreciated
TIA!
Adam.

The answer is to hide empty staves in the edit general style menu.

Not dumb at all, it's far from obvious!
If you havent already, you might want to check out my lead sheet tutorials. Tis particular topic is covered in the advamced version:

But if you haven't read the basic version first, follow the link in the above to check out the basics first.

I've already checked out some of your tutorials. I will continue on!
Thanks again,
Adam.

Further on this, is it possible to use this on a local as opposed to a global setting, for example, to hide staves at a certain point in the score? Is it not traditional to show all staves on the first page of a score, whether an instrument is playing or not? As a conductor, I find that this first page of the score is very useful, but with "hide empty staves" I might not see that an oboe is required until page four.

2.0 will have this.

Meanwhile, the workaround is to insert an invisible note on any staves / systems you don't want hidden.

Thank you. This will do for now.

Yes, I know 1.3 is available. I'm on Ubuntu 12.10, so I will have to install from source. I'll get to it! Promise :-)
Adam,

You don't need to install from source. 1.3 is available from a PPA. See https://launchpad.net/~mscore-ubuntu/+archive/mscore-stable

I just painlessly upgraded using the PPA provided.
Thanks again!
