Embedding music in web pages
I would like to be able to embed short sections of music in web pages aongside standard text so that I can discuss the music in the text.
In an ideal world it'd even be great to edit the music in place within or near the program I use to edit the text. (I know I could produce the music examples separately and then link to images of it and recognise I may have to fall back on doing that).
All the references I see to MusicXML are about full xml files that are used to send music or as an import or export format to various programs. But:
- can I use MusicXML embedded in a web page where it will display as music?
- can MuseScore help me produce such pages or the xml to embed within them?
- can MuseScore enable to browser-based display of such embeded music. And if not is there something else that could?
Many thanks for any insights you have.

I know there are some flash-based programs that can display MusicXML but I don't know much about them or how much they cost. Here's an example site using one: http://wikifonia.org/
There is a free MediaWiki extension that can display LilyPond files: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:LilyPond
Finally, Cambiata on the developers mailing list developed a way to integrate MuseScore files into OpenOffice.org and web pages: http://n2.nabble.com/MuseScore-and-OpenOffice%3A-OOoLilyPond-and-web-di…
