I'm trying to wrtie a bar with the following rhythm.
crotchet
triplet crotchet
triplet quaver tied to triplet crotchet

When trying to add the tie, nothing happens. The rests remain unchanged

Then manually add the tie.
So, if this is sort of what you want, substitute your notes for the g's.

OK thanks. I thought I ought to be able to use + for the tie, but I need to add it manually (as a slur).

It is a + (try selecting the first note and moving it up and down with the arrow keys and this will differentiate between a slur and a tie).

OK I.m confused now. I have all the notes correct, but without the tie, as per the instructions in your first reply. But how do I "manually add the tie"? I can see in the example you sent that it is indeed a tie, but I can only add a slur using lines from the palette menu.
Update. I'm not confused any more. I clicked on the first note and pressed +, but i didn't see the tie as it was very tiny. I magnified up to 400% and could just about see it, so then I double clicked on it and manually enlarged it. I verified it was a tie by changing the note. Thanks for your help.

Select the first of the notes you wish to tie then either hit + (preferably on the keypad - on some keyboard layouts the one on the number row of the keyboard doesn't work) or click the tie button on the main palette.
