How to define more than one shortcut for an action?

• Feb 12, 2025 - 17:59

Context: Preferences->Shortcuts

The "Set duration: 32 note" is set to "2" by default, unlike the other duration setting shortcuts which are set to, for example, "6;Num+6" for "Set duration: half note". This means at least on my system*, "num+2" (with num lock on) doesn't select it. Instead it's set to "Set duration 32nd note (TAB)". I can get rid of that by hitting the "Clear", but I can't figure out how to enter both "2; Num+2" for the "Set duration: 32 note" action. I can enter 2 with the top row of the keyboard and the num pad, but I can't figure out how to set 'num+2" nor can I figure out how to add it to the "2".

Anybody know how?

*(OS: Windows 11 Version 2009 or later, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore Studio version (64-bit): 4.4.4-243461245, revision: 2232670)

The only way I can find is to go to Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts, find that shortcut, select it, and click the "Reset to default" button (lower right). The value you want "2; Num+2" is the default value. I can't figure out how to set two shortcuts either.

Multiple shortcuts for any action can be set by:
1. Clicking the Export button to save all shortcuts to an xml file. ("Export button" on the Shortcuts page)
2. Editing the produced xml file in a text editor. It is nothing complicated - just look at how the current shortcuts in the file are set and follow the pattern.
3. Saving the file in the text editor.
4. Importing the saved file back into MuseScore. ("Import button" on the Shortcuts page)
5. Clicking OK on the Shortcuts dialog.
