I can't save preferences

I'm running Musescore 1.3 on my Mac Mini (OS-X 7.4), and it won't save preferences that I set using the preference menu. Specifically, I'm trying to define a keyboard shortcut for adding a sharp and natural to notes. The new shortcut works until I shut down Musescore. After restart, my new shortcuts are gone.

Some old posts suggested fixes. One cause of this problem is a missing file (Muse.org) in the .config directory. Using Terminal I verified that it is there on my computer. Another possible cause was incorrect permissions on .config. I broadened the permissions using the command CHMOD 777 but that did not help. My knowledge of UNIX commands is pretty limited, so that's about as far as I was going to go.

Any other ideas?
