MuseScore won't read MXL files created with Sibelius
I have tried to open these files with MuseScore 1.3 on a Windows 7 machine, and it crashes the program (mscore.exe has stopped working)....?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You'll have to post the specific files you are having problems with. In general, Sibelius-generated MusicXML files are not a problem, but it could be that these contain some special unusual notation MuseScore does not know how to handle.

Note he said MXL (typo?) so maybe there's a difference.

I think that is the proper MusicXML extension, no?

I did attach them, don't know what happened... here they are again...

They don't indeed work under 1.3, but they do load in the upcoming 2.0. As a workaround, rename them to .ZIP, extract the XML file inside the archive and load that instead.

Thank you my friend! If this was a Facebook post I'd be hitting like incessantly right now. ;-)

@amilardovic It's strongly advised you upgrade your Sibelius. The 7.0.0 version came with quite some MusicXML related bugs which are addressed in later versions.

Thomas, since the issue is with MXL (not XML), and the extracted XML works OK in 1.3 and 2.0, it seems to be an issue with 1.3 and the MXL compressed container. Since 2.0 also works with the MXL supplied by the OP, and he has a workaround, it seems to be a non-issue now.

It's not me, but a colleague who uses it so he sent me the file in a format that I could open in MuseScore.

I also realized Sibelius7's natively integrated xml-export is doing things the wrong way, e.g. ties did not have an opening and a closing, but only a tie type="start"- tag...
I did not know that the Sib team has fixed those bugs before leaving the finsbury park office. but as a workarround, exporting xml files using the free Make Music dolet instead of the native export worked fine in most cases... at least for me.
cheers!
