Can Musescore import a pdf for transposing.

I'd like to know how I would go about importing some sheet music into Musescore for transposing. I haven't downloaded or spent any time with it but just scanned over some of the manual and it's not clear to me. My only real possible use for it right now would be to scan in music and then have it transposed quickly for different instruments. Would I need a separate program to convert from pdf to some other file type or will Musescore do this? Sorry for this probably really basic question but I don't see how to do this or if it's possible.
