Is it possible to change midi channel using articulations
Long story short, I have found samples and created a soundfont that has Staccattoed instruments.
I have been able to create another channel for each of the instruments, in the instruments.xml file. So i now have 'Piccolo' and 'Piccolo-Staccato' etc.. in the mixer. And i am able to change to the 'staccato' channel using staff text. However, i was hoping that rather than using staff text, i could use the staccato marking.
I have attempted to use the same syntax as the Piano uses within the original instruments.xml file and add an Articulation tag with a channel tag, i have however been unsuccessful.
Is this even possible, or is staccato coded into the program to just shorten gate time of a sample?
Any help or clarifications needed would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Mike
To clarify, i am using Win7 64 and Musescore 1.3

It's hardcoded, sorry. Best solution might be to add the staff text but mark it invisible, or use the staccato symbol as text.
Looks like 2.0 will include a way to change channels via articulations, but I haven't tried it.

Unfortunately the piece i am working on is about 775 measures, staff text would take forever. I'll take a shot with a nightly build of 2.0 see if i can get something working.
Thanks for the reply.

In both 1.3 and the nightly builds, you can create and customize the behavior of the staff text once, then copy & paste it to other places. In the nightlies you can also add it to your palette (I guess this is possible in 1.3 too but not supported and may or may not actually work?)

I wasn't aware that staff text could be copied with the channel modifications intact, I'll have to give that a try.
Thanks

Don't the nightlies play staccatos already?

The nightlies "play" stacattos by shortening the notes and not by changing the channel.

Which is what the OP asked, amongst other things :-)
'...is staccato coded into the program to just shorten gate time of a sample?"
I just did a test run with 2.0 and it looks as if the functionality is there, however it seems not to save the changes when closing the dialog.
I open the articulation properties dialog, select the channel i'd like to use, and click ok. Upon playback there is no change in the channel.
Also, I've noticed that the Staff text Channel change dialog has changed. whereas the articulation properties dialog is similar to the Staff Text dialog in 1.3.
Therefore I'm assuming that the channel change on articulations has been planned for implementation in 2.0, but hasn't yet been implemented.

Could you post a link to the xml file? that would be much appreciated.

It's not really clear what you are asking for; this thread is from two years ago and applies to a very old of MuseScore and to a special cusotmized soundfont that the original poster created for their own use. So I don't think the instrumentsl.xml mentioned could be of use to anyone else right now.
If you are having some sort of problem using MuseScore, it would be better to start a new thread, attach the score you are having problems with, and describe the problem in as much detail as you can.
MuseScore 2 provides an instrument change facility that can be used to change sounds at any point without setting up a custom instruments.xml.
