Put fewer measures on a line by using line breaks from the breaks and spacers palette.
No need - the measure should automatically expand as necessary. This goes for notes as well as chord symbols. Only case where it doesn't if it the last chord symbol of a measure crosses the barline and collides with the first chord of the next, but making the measure wider won't generally help with that. Instead, you need to manually adjust the position of one or both chords, or increase the appropriate setting in Style / General / Chord Symbols.
