double stops
I'm creating a score in which, at one point, the violist plays an open 'A' string while playing other moving notes on the 'D' string, but I can only add a note of the same value to the notes played at the same time, and it's within a slur, which means they aren't taking multiple bows. Does anyone have an idea how to insert notes of a different length?

You can use voices. They are at the top right of Musescore, labelled 1, 2, 3, 4. Notate one part with voice 1, and the other with voice two.
Hope this helps!

A new user. Adding voices did work, but now the measure is cluttered with rests when there is only a single not. I would like to suppress those rests.

None-voice 1 rests can get deleted, all rests can get made invisible , matching rests can get merged
