insert a rest into the middle of a bar
I can't insert a rest into the middle of a bar. it always places the notes in and wont't let me move the a rest before the end note

It might be easier to help if you post the score (the MSCZ file) that you are having trouble with plus an image of what you would like it to look like plus (if you can) the exact steps that you took in an attempt to achieve what you want (if it is a bug then this will help others to fix it).
It's not possible to "insert" a rest into the middle of a bar as that would leave you with too many beats. Presumably what you really mean is that you want to take some unspecified of notes and move them later. Assuming so, the way to do so is directly - cut and paste the notes you want moved from their current position to the new desired position.
If that doesn't help, please attach your score and describe what you are trying to do in more detail.
