Musescore Can't Read My File

So when I try to open my latest composition, musescore says it can't read it and refuses to open it. I don't know what I did to prompt this; I just woke up one day and kept seeing this message. I seen other forums talking about opening backups but I can't seem to find them for this particular file. Is any other way to restore it or should I just give up and rewrite it?
