2.3-RC Synthesizer
I looked at the sound fonts loaded in the synthesizer today. I realized my favorite sound fonts were not there. I clicked the add button and selected a sound font (sf2 type) expecting to need to get a cup of coffee before I could do anything else (this is a slight exaggeration) but to my surprise the font was immediately loaded (this is no exaggeration). I then added another sound font and changed the order just to see what would happen. There was a slight delay, but the sound fonts were reordered much faster than in earlier versions. I don't remember seeing anything mentioned that this was expected in version 2.3, but it is a great improvement that I thought should be mentioned. If there is a known PR that improves this it really should be listed in the 2.3 release notes

sf2 wasn't a problem, sf3 was and most probably still is

I never had an sf3 until version 2.2.1 which I rarely used. My sf2's took forever prior to version 2.3-RC.

never heard of this or experienced it myself.
The default soundfont is SF3 in MuseScore since quite long, but only since 2.2 it takes a significant time to load, due to its increased size

It is possible that this improvement is due to the latest windows 10 update that happened almost simultaneously with the upgrade to 2.3-RC, but this would surprise me.
