Stemming of percussion

• Nov 15, 2018 - 16:01

I have been for using your software, musescore, for months already. I must admit that your software has provided lots of convenience to me. However, as a percussion player, I have found that although you have provided the function of changing the stem direction, unfortunately, it seldom works. it takes me many time to change the stem from up to down, it may still does not after several attempts. I am not sure if it is due to my personal problem, or there is bug in your system. I hope that you improve if it is due to your system's bug, and love the problem as soon as possible. thank so much.

If you give an example of what you want, someone can walk you though the process. There is probably something you are missing. Attaching a score will help.

Indeed, reading the manual will likely help, and if you still are stuck after reading it, you can always post your score here and explain the problem in more detail. I'd just like to observe that with percussion, the general idea is to decide on your stem directions and noteheads first, before entering notes. Most people would normally be satisfied with the defaults, which are actually designed to be correct according to fairly standard publishing standards, but different publishers do have different standard, which is why we provide methods of changing the defaults and also overriding them.

So anyhow again, normally you'd just customize your drumset to work the way you personally prefer, then you never have to touch stem directions manually. But if, say, you want most of your snare drums to be upstem (the default) but for whatever reason want one particular snare note to be downstem, just click it and press "X". Or you can enter it into voice 2 by clicking the voice 2 button after clicking the note icon in the palette but before clicking in your score.
