That's an invisible 3rd voice, because my timpani sf2 has actual rolls, they're just hidden in octaves timpani never uses. Same thing happens if you use an invisible 2nd voice.
This is a regression from 2.3.2, which of course ignored invisible notes as it ignored visible notes, lol.
Turning off autoplace is the workaround.

Complicating this is the fact that i's not just about making the "note" invisible but all the elements of the chord. So there isn't an "easy" way to check this. But still worth thinking about.
Another workaround, BTW, is to use "Fix to line" in Inspector to force the note onto the staff. Not that it's a better method, but a nice to know about.
