Automatic reduction of chords/intervals

• Jun 3, 2019 - 14:10

Hello,
is there a feature which can extract only the top/bottom pitch of an interval (or chord), so I don't have to rewrite it manually?
(Also if I had to rewrite it manually, could I have selected some notes while imserting new ones?)
Thanks for your answer!

There is no automated way to do this, but there are tools to make it easier.

As long as there are the same number of notes on all chords, you can use the instruments dialog (press i) and add enough staves to hold one note per staff except the top note (which will remain on the original staff).

You can then use Tools->Explode to distribute the notes in the chords among the staves. Keep in mind that if you have fewer notes in a chord, the bottom note of the chord will be repeated on the bottom staff and the one above (and so forth until all staves have a note). So, the top note will always remain on the top staff, and the bottom one may be duplicated if needed to have a note on every staff.

You now have copies of the individual notes on the chord you can edit. When you done select all of the measures in all of the staves and use Tools->Implode to put all of the notes on the top staff again. Starting in version 3, you will need to select the top staff and use implode until all notes are in one voice.

You may then delete the unneeded staves you added.
