Alongside Vista you can install Mint (and use a newer version?)

is one of the Linux OSs. You will need to download the ISO image and burn it to a DVD.
You can insert the disc, boot the PC and test it, without installing, or decide to install it alongside Vista. In case, booting the pc you can choose which OS to run.
On my Mint desktop (installed next to Vista 32 bit)
2.3.2/3.0.5/3.1Nightly
MuseScore 3.1 should work on Vista as far as I know, it may not be supported though, but that is because Microsoft doesn't. And Qt doesn't either, not the version we're using for MuseScore 3 at least.
You can upgrade to Windows 7 for sure.
So what all the others basically are asking is, how do you know you can't install it?
Is there an error message shown when you try?
Is it because you've downloaded the 64-bit version and your system is still 32-bit?
