size of bars varies

• Aug 1, 2019 - 14:38

I want to have even sized bars and the same number of bars per line throughout my score.

At present the size of bars varies based on number of notes
e.g. - two half notes is a smaller physical size on the score to, say, four quarter notes.
- Thus some lines have two bars and other six bars (or more!)

How do I set the score that i can have the same number of equal sized bars per line (e.g. four)

Two half notes are supposed to take less room than four quarter notes according to the standard rules of music notation. The principles of good engraving also specifically recommend against having barlines line up from system to system even if the rhythms are the same. However, there are a very few special situations where this can nevertheless make sense, and if you're sure yours is one of them, you can decrease/increase stretch measure-by-measure to even out the sizes as you see fit, using the shortcuts "{" and "}".
