Double ties

• Aug 11, 2014 - 18:33

I have three standard books on musical notation, all of which say that tied chords should have the tie on the upper note(s) curving up and on the lower note(s) down, but Musescore puts the ties all in the same direction (see att.) You then have to change the ties with X. Shouldn't the Musescore default for tied chords match the standard?

I looked and responded to those issues. Basically, we get the important stuff right. Of the things where we are not in agreement with Gould, some of it is corner cases that would be very complex for us to *make* right, or else it's subjective cases like the inner tie direction on single-voice chords that might be easy to change but would would deserve further discussion before making the change, since the current method is perfectly valid as well.

Sorry if we weren't clear. For 2.0, the outer ties *will* have opposite direction, just as everyone agrees on. It's only *inner* ties (chords of >2 notes) where different editors use different rules. MuseScore uses a rule that happens to not be Gould's favorite. There are other corner cases where Gould suggests exceptions to those rules, and someday, MuseScore might be smart enough to deal with some or all of those cases.

But again, for the basic case of two-note chords, it's already fixed.
