How to place notes on same time position with different lengths?

I have a piece that requires a chord to be played on the Bass clef. However, I want to indicate that the notes should be released at different times. So the C and E notes would both be pressed down at the same time, but the C note only lasts for a Quarter while the E note lasts for a Half. This seems simple right? But Musescore keeps automatically moving the C note out of the way or deleting it when I try to place the E note above it as a Half and not a Quarter. How do I disable this?
