Ending a tie
I want to end a tie when the on two notes when the next note is also the same pitch. Even after a rest, when I enter the next note, the tie extends to it (turning it into a slur) and I don't want that!

I'd bet this is a slur and not a tie.
Select the half note, press +
You cannot tie those notes together (usually) because there is the same note between them. You can trick MuseScore into accepting this tie by making the notes that are the same either another note or a rest, apply the tie (it will always go to the next note of the same pitch) then enter the notes again. I won't guarantee this will survive a save and reload though...but you can try.
It's definitely not at all clear what you mean. Can you describe in more detail what you are trying to do and how you are trying to do it?
