I notice that since my transition to MS 3.3.0 I can no longer apply the cautionary accidental as the notes are entered, a habit I had with previous editions (even with MS.2).
From now on, when I have completed an input sequence ( or pitch change) ,I am obliged to go back to place thesecautionary accidental; consequences, quite a few forgetting about long input sequences and waste of time.
Unless in this new version, something has escaped me? Is this regression real?

The order has been reversed. You must now click the accidental button (or use your user defined shortcut) before you enter the note. This make it so you can hear the note properly when entered if the accidental is not a courtesy accidental.
This does create one problem. If you are using the keyboard (like I do), if the note is entered into the wrong octave, the courtesy accidental is removed when you change octaves.

I'm not sure this is a bug that can be fixed, most definitely not only or the case of moving one note. I know there are suggestions and/or bug reports existing that request courtesy accidentals be maintained in any transposition and one of those would cover this issue.

I wouldn't say it's under study, just that it has been a known problem in general for a long time. One report of this is #292648: Courtesy accidentals disappear after an octave change using Ctrl + Up/Down and I have added a comment that this came up again in this conversation to remind developers of it.

After you finished note input, you run the plugin once to add (and possibly remove) courtesy accidentals.

FWIW, this is to me yet another argument in favor of adding new commands for which one can define shortcuts, that basically do what the old accidental commands did while in note input mode: apply to the current note. I get that the palette can still do that, and I get why the toolbar behavior has changed, and for most use cases its the right choice even if it takes some getting used to (and I agree Ctrl+Up/Down should now change as well). But not having any simple way to reliably add an accidental after the fact with keyboard but without leaving note input mode just feels like a regression.

I have been assuming I will get used to the new prefixed accidental method eventually (old dogs, new tricks etc.) but I am encountering the octave shift problem more frequently than I would have imagined. My usual method of doing a transcription is to enter the notes first then go back and add the things that can't be accessed in note entry mode. Now I am in and out of note entry mode like the proverbial fiddlers elbow.

Then I recommend the palette, it solves that nicely. You can even access this via keyboard (Shift+Tab takes you back to last element, Enter re-applies it, or you can navigate).
