Tools that worked in the earlier version no longer work with the updated version
In the latest MuseScore (March 14th 2020) in editing the flat, sharp, etc buttons don't work. I can achieve the same result using the up and down arrows on the keyboard.
I can't remember now but I think there were other problems that I've noticed.
The old version seemed to work very well.

They do, but affect the next note.
In particular, when you are in note input mode, the accidental buttons now work the same way as the other buttons like the duration buttons or the voice buttons: they don't change the current note but instead set the stage for the next note you are about to enter. When not in note input mode, they continue to work as before, which is also just like the other buttons: they do change the current note.
