Incorrect placement of tremolos between whole notes

Tremolo bars are placed to far to the right for "between note" semibreves. See attached score stave 1

Looking at the the tremolo bars between minims, one can see that the tremolo bars are centered between the note stems. See attached score stave 2. The tremolo bars in the semibreve case should be centred between the noteheads.

The tremolo bars on the semibreves seem to be similarly centred on the non-existent stems. This prompted me to experiment with changing the stem direction on the semibreves. Non of the results are satisfactory and some are bizarre. See attached score staves 3, 4, 5.

I eventually found a workaround which is to set the second semibreve to have a right mirrored note head. See attached score stave 6. But it would be better if this was fixed so that the correct placement is made with the default notehead settings.

I first noted this while using 3.2.3 but the problem persists in 3.4.2 and MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.5.0.11614

Hmm?? Yes, That is what Gould says on p226 of my copy:

But don't those beams between the B and Bb in example 3 look closer to the imaginary stem of the B than that of the Bb? Perhaps B's were are poor choice for the example as we don't know whether they would have up-stems or down-stems. Also on the previous page she seems to give an example with the beams centred between noteheads - or are these optical illusions?

Certainly she never shows an example with beams overlapping the heads of the "pseudo" whole notes. Perhaps Musescore's beam lengths are too long or the spacing between notes with tremolos is to small.

I did another experiment.

When you add the tremolo to the two half notes there is a small increase in the width of the measure. Measure 3 is very slightly wider than measure 2. I then made measure 4 an 8/4 measure to see what spacing would be given to two whole notes. That measure even without tremolo beams is wider than measure 3 with the 2 "pseudo" whole notes. There is possibly enough room to have tremolo beams centred between the imaginary note stems but short enough not to overlap the note heads. It is that overlap that is my main concern about the current behaviour rather than how the beams are centred.

This prompts the questions: what spacing does musescore give to the "pseudo" notes that are created for beaming purposes? Should that spacing be adjusted to be similar to what is needed for two "real" notes of the same length as the "psuedo" notes. By that I mean if you enter two half notes and add a tremolo you end up with what looks like two semibreves in the bar. Should the spacing be what is needed for two real whole notes rather than two half notes even though two whole notes may not fit rhythmically in that measure?
