How to enter scores with pickup beats.

I don't know if this can be done in MUseScore but would appreciate an answer or a pointer to the pages in the Handbook where this is described.

Here is the scenario. Time signature is C (4/4). The first measure consists of only the 4th beat, no rests. The last measure of the phrase consists of only 3 beats. The beginning of the 2nd phrase is similar: The 1st measure of the phrase is only the 4th beat, no rests; the last measure of the phrase has only 3 beats.

This is common notation, but I could not figure out how to do it in MuseScore. I did search the Handbook for hints but didn't find any.
