Q and W shotcuts
it would be very helpful if the Q and W shortcuts work without going into Note Entry (N). just like R works from outside note entry.
WHy doesnt esc work for existing note entry? would like that back.
also a cool feature and very useful one would be, if you can select a whole phrase and use Q and W to alter all the notes at ones. Just like "paste double duration"option in the edit tab.
Thank you so much

It does that for me, in 3.5.0. Not for a range selection though, but by selecting the note, out of note entry mode
To be clear: Q and W definitely do work in normal mode, if only a single note is selected. For multiple notes, you can use paste half/double duration, which have their own shortcuts Ctrl+Shift+Q/W, assuming that's the result you want (you can also just press "5", for example, to turn everything into a quarter note, at the same beat position).
Esc does work for exiting note input mode, or indeed any special mode (edit mode, play mode, image capture mode, etc).

Thanks marc! Im not sure why esc just stopped working for me after my last upgrade to 3.5. ill try reinstaling?
q and w do indeed work from normal mode. my bad! And the ctrl+shift+Q/W do nothing for me. but, i should point out that in my copy of musescore, paste half/double has no shortcut assigned to it. which i understand from your post should have the forementioned shortcut?

Reinstalling won't do any good here, reverting to factory settings might

Could be you customized your shortcuts before that was added, so now you are missing any new shortcuts added since them. You can reset these shortcuts in Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts, or just reset all preferences, or to a total revert to factory settings.
The Esc glitch could be hardware of course, but it could also be something else that has gone wrong with your shortcut definitions. Sometimes OS-defined ones like this get reset inadvertently after certain operations, I know a bug was fixed in this area w hile back but I still see it happen. Simply closing and restarting MuseScore generally fixes it if so.

so, i did a factory reset. although musescore crashed right after i clicked ok, i seem to have the shotcuts working.
