OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.5.2.311459983, revision: 465e7b6

  1. Enter a search term into the palettes search box.
  2. Now press the Clear button.
  3. Without clicking anything, enter the term "fingering".

Expected result: The term is entered and the fingering palette appears.
Actual result: After you enter "I", the Instruments dialog opens.

Workaround: Click in the search box before entering a term.

Confirmed. The search box behavior is changing for 3.6 (some to fix regressions, some just to improve the overall experience), let's check the beta to see if this is still an issue.

In current 3.6 builds, clear actually closes the box. So, the original bug here is gone, but replaced by something at least as bad; you need to re-click the search button to bring it back. That might be by design, but it's worth questioning.
