more help with repeats
Hiya.
I need a bit more help with simple repeats. In my latest score, the trumpet solo starts over a bar-long blast from all the brass. The solo happens over a four bar chord sequence that repeats six times, but the brass blast is only meant to happen first time round. I could simply add some text telling players 'first time only', but that won't stop the brass blast happening on every repeat on the mp3 guide track. Is there any way to fix this please?
Thanks
David

Unfortunately, no. There is no way to make MuseScore play some notes only on specific repeats, like only first time, or only second time etc.

It's even difficult to get live musicians to do it right, especially if you are inviting a brass section to play loud ;-).

There are two sides to a trumpeter's personality. There is the one that lives only to lay waste to the woodwinds and strings, leaving them lying blue and lifeless along the swath of destruction that is the trumpeter's fury. ...and then there is the dark side.

I wish I had said that.
Well I probably will.

You're welcome! The more I learn about MuseScore the more I love it. I have no clue why any of my musical friends stick with Sibelius.
You can use tools, unroll repeats to unroll the score, then silence or delete the notes you don't want played to make your MP3. The score will not be linked to the original at all but can be saved under a different name if you want to keep it after making the MP3.

Brilliant, thank you!

Or....you could start the blast on the last quaver of the previous bar and add a slur. Then it only plays first time on playback. Genius!
Or consider making the repeat only 5 times and copy paste everything else for the 6th to after the repeat.

As a trumpet player and Sibelius user, I only have one question.
How do you know when there's a soprano at your front door?
She can't find the key and doesn't know when to come in.

:-) What a pitty that this one doesn't translate into German
I was thinking you could use a rogue volta which would stop the playing of the measure but that would not be the same as leaving the measure in place as a rest. You still need to account for the measure beat duration. Bummer because I have used the rogue volta to make a three count repeat function like a two play count repeat.
Trumpet solo, using simple repeats, with "brass blast" played once over a 4 bar chord sequence (e.g., here C - Am - Dm7 - G7):
