Question about the beat shown in the status bar information for current note

• Jan 1, 2021 - 18:29

At the bottom of the screen when you select a note there is an entry in the status bar that shows current measure, staff, voice etc. Included is the beat count in the measure. My score is common time (C) and nominal and actual measure properties show as 4:4. So my beats are 1,2,3,4 for each quarter interval. I am looking at a downloaded score for the same piece and in this presentation, the beat shows integral values on eighth note intervals. So in this score the beat count is 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 on the eighth interval. This score has modified measure properties of nominal 4;4 but actual is 9:8 because of some additional rests added to extend the measure. However if I change my actual to 8:8 the beat shown in the lower left remains based on quarter intervals. Can someone please explain. Thanks. How do I show the beat based on eighths leaving the timing at common (C). Thanks in advance.

My score does not have it. In the other score if I shorten the actual to 8:8 or 4:4 the beat count goes to the quarter interval (even if I specify 8:8. It only stays on the eighth note if there is a dangling eighth rest at the end of an extended measure. Why doesn't using 8:8 set the beat count to eighth intervals for a normal measure drop back to the equivalent of using 4:4? Confusing.

I have no problems with my score. The one I was commenting upon was downloaded from Musescore. Grieg Piano Concerto In A Minor - 1st movement uploaded by Dave5400. Around measure 200 at the end of the Cadenza there are a number of measures which I show on original paper score as being standard measures but this gentleman has modified and around this measure there are a number of 9/8 measures. In some instances I believe he added an additional 1/8 note at the beginning of the measure since he needed an arpeggio on a acciaccatura and substituted a note that could carry the arpeggio and in a few other cases he needed a clef change between the grace note and the main note at the beginning of a measure which Musescore would force before the grace note. What he did was not the issue.. Just trying to understand why his beat count differed from mine and for that matter why it stays at 1/8 intervals even if I make his measures 4:4 when the extra beat is a rest at the end of a measure.
