See the article from the FAQ linked above. Occasionally a file cannot be updated properly because it is in use by another program, and this can prevent MuseScore from starting normally. Solution is to reboot, then run the installer again and either repair or else uninstall / reinstall.
I tried to download the new program again. This time I only lost 2 scores. My wife is going to be very angry, one of them is irretrievable. They are not in documents. They were coming up by retrieving last session prompt. I loaded a video on one, I felt they were that good. I can get close enough to one by ear from audacity. The other was much more complicated.

Got it back. Found and used the file to open the program that stopped working.

Program will not open from the shortcut. Do I need to reload ? Do I dare ? Hard-copying (YECH! ) everything.

I found the files on my hard drive. They were stored in Local Temp.
