Delete underscore without deleting text
It would be a time-saver if the underscore in lyrics could be deleted without having to delete the text. Either that, or MuseScore could know when it's not needed and hide it automatically.

This doesn't seem to be working: It starts playing the music and doesn't affect the text.

Be sure, that you're in the text edit mode, see: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/text-editing#text-edit-mode.
To be clear: melisma lines are only displayed when they are actually entered into the score by the person who created the score - they are never added automatically. So if the user goes out of her way to ask for one, we honor that; we don't try to make value judgments on whether it was needed or not. As noted, they be be deleted by simply replacing them with a hyphen or space as appropriate.
