Cannot add "<" as text in lines
As either begin text or end text.
I have tried with several types of lines to the same result: the line moves a little but the character is not entered. All other characters seem to work fine (including ">").
This occurs both in my projects and in a new file.
I can add "<" in other types of text so I assume this is a bug.

Not sure whether we can call it a bug, these angle brackets are used internally in the MuseScore format, which is XML-like, and to some extent are also used in the user visible parts, like e.g. for Ottava lines which have something like

I suppose so yes, bug is the wrong word, I suspected it was because the character had other uses, the same thing happens with "&" in your example of course. Certainly not a "bug" that needs solving given your workaround (:
