My mixer in Grayed out. Cannot use playback

I am trying to listen to a score that I am writing but I am not able to use the playback feature. My mixer functions is grayed out. Using View and then selecting Mixer or using Function key 10 renders nothing. They are grayed out. Is there something I need to do to unable this facility in Musescore? Thank you for you help.
